Current Skincare Staples

6:32 PM

Note: I am in no way suggesting I'm super knowledgable about skin! I'm always changing up what I'm using and am just writing about what has worked for me lately :)

I've struggled with my skin for such a long time. It has only been recently that I've found some products that have been working for me (so far!) so I thought I'd share them with you. Keep in mind, everyone has very different skin types so what works for me may not work for everyone. But I believe that no matter how dry, oily or whatever your skin is, if you take proper care of it, it will thank you in the long run.

To cleanse my skin I alternate between two different cleansers. I'll use the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser every day, and the St. Ives Green Tea Scrub every three or four days in the shower. In the past I have used a much harsher foaming cleanser, but I've found that instead of improving my skin it just strips it of any moisture it has. Lately, my skin is at its best when I use a gentle cleanser and then exfoliate with a scrub directed towards acne prone skin.

To pre-cleanse my face and remove my makeup, I use a bit of Bioderma Micellaire Solution on a cotton pad (not pictured because I just ran out!). I like this because it removes my face makeup without drying out my skin. Only downfall is it's pretty pricey.

Before I apply my daily moisturizer (in the morning and bedtime) I'll apply the Hydraluron Serum by Indeed Labs. This is full of hyaluronic acid that acts as almost a glue to help your skin absorb and retain moisture.

On top of this, I'll apply the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing gel. I've been using this for a couple of years and I love it.

If my skin is feeling especially dry, I'll apply the Body Shop Aloe Care Night Cream before I go to bed. This is super gentle and adds lots of moisture.

For eye cream I've been enjoying the Origins Vita-zing. It's super brightening and works great under concealer.

When I'm breaking out or finding my skin oilier than normal, I'll break out (hehe) the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask. This stuff is pretty heavy duty and leaves the face feeling a bit tight, but the next day my skin will have dramatically cleared up.

If I have a certain pimple that is causing me extra grief, I'll pop a bit of Clearasil Benzoyl Peroxide Cream directly on the spot. I definitely don't recommend using this everyday because it is quite drying.

Lips & Body

Although the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Treatment is the most expensive lip balm I've bought in recent years ($20, yikes), it has helped my lips survive this cold and drying Winter. It's pretty thick, so I usually only using it overnight, but it gets the job done. It's also a favourite of many beauty bloggers, including Lily, Estee and Amelia

And, as mentioned in my April Favourites, I've been loving the Vaseline Spray-on Moisturizer. It is a lazy person's dream.

What are your skincare essentials? Have you tried any of these?
