My Personal Beauty Influences (Both Inside and Out)

10:38 PM

I have been lucky enough to spend my entire life in the presence of many caring, supportive and strong female figures. These women have helped guide me through ups and downs, and to the place I am at today. They are beautiful both inside and out.

A couple of weeks ago I thought to myself, I spend so much time taking "beauty" tips and advice from women from around the world that I don't even know that I'm missing out on the beauty that is right in front of me: all of the wonderful women in my life!

I decided to make it a goal to find out their secrets, so I could learn from them and also share with you! Luckily, many of them were up for the challenge and answered my simple yet challenging questions about their skincare and makeup routines (thank you all!).

So here are some beauty favourites, tips and tricks from some of the many influential women in my life.

1. What is a make up brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? I don't always use make up (as in facial finishes or foundations) as they sometimes irritate me but my best ever is Elizabeth Arden. I love their mousse but I couldn't always afford that so I watch for Sears specials where I get their little lovely giveaways.

2. What are your top 3 make up or skincare must-haves? Eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and lipstick always.

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? Always wash your face morning and night always use a light moisturizer.

1. What is a makeup brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? Cetaphillllllll. I use both their cleanser & their moisturizer. I had zero pimples as a teen and then all of a sudden when I turned 23 my skin decided adult acne was a thing. This is really the only brand that has helped! Plus, they’re both only $10 each at Wal-Mart.

2. What are your top 3 makeup or Skincare must-haves? Mascara is definitely my #1 beauty item. I’ve tried pretty much every mascara on the market, both drugstore & high end, but my absolute favorite is Jordana’s Best Lash Extreme. It’s not available in Canada, so I order it from eBay. Which I know makes me sound insane. BUT! It’s only $20 for 4 tubes! You can’t get that price anywhere else. And it’s amazing. The brush is small enough so that you can get right to the base of your lashes. Additionally, the formula is extremely buildable, thus allowing you to re-apply as many times as you’d like without clumping.

My second must-have item is Benefit’s Hoolah Bronzer. I have really pale skin but am in denial of that little fact, so I like to use this instead of a pressed powder. It’s the only bronzer I’ve tried that isn’t orange-toned! This one is more of a toasty brown color. It’s also highly pigmented, so one package will last you like, a year. And that’s saying something because I’m obsessed with being tan and I apply this stuff quite liberally. It’s great for contouring and sometimes I even use it as eye shadow.

This isn’t really makeup or skincare, but my third MUST-HAVE LIFE OR DEATH ITEM would be BABY POWDER. I use it as dry shampoo. And you can get a giant bottle at the dollar store for... well, $1. It’s just as good as a bottle of Batiste - which is almost $10 and will only last you a month – where as a bottle of baby powder will last you at least two years.

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? OKAY I’m going to cheat here. 1 – Wear sunscreen and don’t go to the tanning bed! Ever. Or you’ll start to see wrinkles. WHICH I AM ALREADY GETTING. Sob. 2 – You don’t need to spend a lot of money on beauty products! I firmly believe that some of the best products are “lower-end.” Just because something has a shiny package/logo doesn't mean it’s not great. Don’t be afraid to try a cheaper brand. EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO SHAMPOO. Never buy cheap shampoo. 3 – If someone asks you in a condescending voice “Why are you wearing makeup? We’re only [INSERT ACTIVITY WHERE PEOPLE THINK YOU SHOULDN’T WEAR MAKEUP HERE]” tell them to... SUCK IT. *~Makeup Knows No Rules~*

1. What is a make up brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? Believe it or not I really have NOT stayed faithful to any one, the only thing that comes close would be the Maybelline "medium-beige" foundation.. this is the best colour for my skin and has a nice coverage.

2. What are your top 3 make up or skincare must-haves? I must have a thick hydrating night cream that is always applied each night after cleansing, must have a coloured moist lipstick on, and a non clumping mascara.

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? ONE piece of "beauty" advice is to "SMILE" people are so attracted to happy people!

1. What is a make up brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? My Stila liquid eyeliner. It gives great dark shiny color, is easy to use, long wearing and lasts months. I also love Maybelline Great Lash mascara. It doesn't look too "done" and coats lashes nicely without clumping, dark color, etc...

2. What are your top 3 make up or skincare must-haves? Lush Mask of Magnaminty, Stila liquid eyeliner, and Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette!

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? Wash your face. Every night before bed and every morning after waking up. No forgetting!

1. What is a make up brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? I have always found Revlon to be a good mid priced product. Whenever I purchase one of their products I am not disappointed

2. What are your top 3 make up or skincare must-haves? My top three makeup or skin care must haves are: L'Oreal mascara, a concealer I found this at Winner's and love, and my Smashbox lipgloss.

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? I think the most important thing is to moisturize your face. My girls do it and I can't seem to keep a moisturizer in the house because they all use it but it's worth it to keep your skin healthy and youthful!

1. What is a make up brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? I pretty much always buy Covergirl....because the price is cheaper and easy to find in the drug store. I am overwhelmed with so many choices that instead of trying something new, I always seem to revert back to what I know.

2. What are your top 3 make up or skincare must-haves? I always use a skin cream before I go to bed (Nivea is what I'm using now.)I couldn't go without eye liner and mascara. My eyelashes are so small that I feel naked without wearing those

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? My skin care tip is just to moisturize. I use chap stick for my lips, moisturizer for my face and a pump cream (whatever is on sale)for mu legs and feet every night before bed....it keeps my skin from getting chapped and dry.

1. What is a makeup brand or product that you have always stayed faithful to and why? Dove and Cetaphil. Dove has kept my skin soft and smooth for many years. I also have allergies and it doesn’t cause me issues. Cetaphil because I had acne all my life and a dermatologist recommended it 20 years ago and it cleans and removes makeup without being drying or irritating.

2. What are your top 3 makeup or Skincare must-haves? I) Retin-A, 2) Oils – coconut, rosehip, vitamin E 3) Moisturizer with SPF of at least 30

3. If you had one piece of "beauty" advice, what would it be? My one piece of beauty advice is- be consistent. Take off makeup before bed, exfoliate, moisturize, use sun screen and drink lots of water!
