Review: Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

12:59 PM

There are certain products that make me think to myself, "that seems like it's either really, really awesome or really, really gimmicky, but hey! gotta give it a try!" (as you do...)

The Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara is exactly one of those products. I was intrigued by the idea (especially because my biggest blogger crush Estee raves about it) but wondered if it was really worth buying a mascara specifically for my bottom lashes. Maybe it was worth it, maybe it wasn't! You'll have to read on to find out ;)

The basics

Cost: $12 CDN
Available: Any Clinique makeup counter

The claims

"What it does:
This mascara's brush was engineered to grasp even the tiniest of bottom lashes; its expert formula resists pesky smears.

What else you need to know:
Bottom Lash Mascara is formulated to be removed with warm water. Simply splash warm water (bath temperature is ideal) onto lashes, press gently, and mascara comes off with ease."

The Verdict

While I've only used the Bottom Lash Mascara a few times (to be honest, I often forget I have it), it's left me feeling quite torn.

The tiny wand (the same size of the Benefit Gimme Brow wand) makes application quite easy, grabbing onto every single lash. However, everytime I've used it I've had to wipe away some smudging under my lashes (maybe this is just poor technique?).

The formula is quite lightweight, which helps to avoid the clumpy, spider-lash effect that I'm not a fan of.

In terms of wear-time, it hasn't seemed to last an entire day on my lashes. By the end of the day it always flakes off, and while that sucks, at least it doesn't cause raccoon eyes! But this has made it difficult to test out the "warm water removal" method.

So, while I think this is a good product that lives up to its claims and I definitely don't regret buying it, is it a necessity in my makeup bag? No. The same effect could definitely be achieved with a regular mascara and a light, wiggle-y hand.

But if you are looking to give something different a try and are willing to spend the money, pick it up! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
