Thinking About Getting Naked?

Canadian Beauty Blogger Product Reviews Swatches Sephora Smoky Eye Urban Decay Naked Palette

No... not that kind of naked, silly! Urban Decay Naked.

Perhaps the most hyped up beauty products on the internet, the Urban Decay Naked 1, 2 and 3 palettes have caused hysteria in Sephoras across the nation for the past few years. Love them or hate them, the Urban Decay Naked palettes have definitely made their mark on the cosmetic industry.

So why the hype?

The quality of these shadows is unparalleled. Although debatable, I believe that Urban Decay struck gold while developing their eye shadow formula. It is smooth, buttery, pigmented and just simply brilliant.

While all three palettes are wonderful in their own way (yes, I ended up owning them all), it isn't necessary to run out and purchase them all in order to achieve the perfect eye look. I thought I would break down the facts, pros and cons about each of the palettes to help you find the perfect Naked for you!

First, the original:

The facts:
  • 10 warm-toned shades, 2 cool-toned shades
  • 2 matte shadows, 10 shimmer/satin shadows
  • Shades that you won't find similar in the other Naked palettes: Darkhorse, Gunmetal and Creep
Pros:
  • Best formulation of all three palettes
  • Good combination of dark and light shades
Cons:
  • Flimsy cardboard packaging
  • No matte black shade (always a great thing to have in a palette)
Naked 2

Cons:

  • Not as many "universally appealing" shades and in Naked 1
  • Less light/dark contrast in shades
Naked 3

The facts:
  • A mixture of rose gold and cool-toned shades
  • 3 matte shadows, 9 shimmer/satin shadows
  • Shades that you won't find similar in the other Naked palettes: Dust, Burnout, Buzz, Trick, Blackheart
Pros:
  • Sturdy metal packaging
  • Contains the most "unique" shades out of all three
  • Contains a matte highlight shade
Cons:
  • Very pink/rose gold (may not be everyone's cup of tea)
  • Less light/dark contrast in shades
Verdict: I love each of these palettes for different reasons. I'm glad I own them all, but in reality it isn't necessary unless you're a makeup junkie like myself (especially at the $60+ cost). Each palette is suited to different skin tones and tastes, so you can definitely get away with owning only one and not be missing out.

I hope this little guide will help you in choosing which Naked is right for you!

  1. I don't own any (except the basics, which was a gift) but i am always tempted by number1, just the most appealing to me!

  2. If you think the Naked palettes are pigmented and buttery, you need to try the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I've barely touched my Naked palettes since I got that one.
