I've always been a bit wishy-washy when it comes to Valentines Day. I am not one of the people who swear it off as a "Hallmark Holiday" and curse the day it was invented, but I am also not one to decorate my apartment full of hearts and flowers and play love songs all day long.
Although I'm not a die-hard Valentines-er, each year I do look forward to it because it's the first real celebration since Christmas. I always get a bit bummed in January/February because there is not much to look forward to, so Valentines does add a bit of excitement.
This year was certainly special, as I experienced my first ever five-course meal - and let me tell ya, it's been hard going back. Yesterday morning I had a banana, waited five minutes, a piece of toast, waited five minutes, followed by three more courses. Yes, as you can imagine, it was not the same. Annnnnd my boyfriend may have thought I was a bit nuts.
Our normal idea of a fancy date night is heading to our favourite local pizza place, followed by watching a movie on the couch. But for Valentines, Tyson made a reservation at Fleur de Sel, a beautiful french restaurant in Lunenburg. It was more of an 'experience' than I have ever had at a restaurant, and the food was as amazing as the atmosphere.
But onto the point of this post. Since we were doing something extra special, I wanted to feel extra special! For my makeup, I chose some of my ol' faithfuls and "fancier" makeup to create a soft, romantic look.
Base: I used my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in 'Vanilla' to hide my dark circles and any redness. Lately I haven't really been using much more than this, as I find it gives such good coverage and such a natural finish.
Blush: I chose 'Luminous Flush' from my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette to add some colour to my cheeks. This palette is probably my favourite ever makeup purchase. No other blush currently compares to these beauties.
Bronze: To add a bit of warmth and definition to my face, I used my trusty Soap and Glory Solar Powder. I don't know what I am going to do when this runs out. Hopefully make another trip overseas to pick up some replacements? A bronzer is a good excuse, right?
Brows: For brows I used my new love: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Whiz in 'Taupe'. I don't know how my brows survived without this.
Eyes: For eyes I kept it pretty simple, using my ByTerry Ombre Blackstar in 'Misty Rock' all over the lid, followed by my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in 'Trooper' to add a winged look. I haven't done this in ages, so it made the makeup feel extra special. Oh! I can't forget adding a couple coats of Buxom Mascara.
Lips: My lips have been painfully dry lately, so I avoided any bright, bold lips and kept it simple by applying my Rimmel Lipliner in East End Snob all over.
Finishing Touches: I completed the look (I feel so weird saying that my makeup is a 'look') by setting my makeup with my Urban Decay All Nighter Spray and applying a little bit of NEST's Midnight Fleur perfume.
