Review: L'Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper

10:27 PM

About a year ago, I discovered the Benefit Gimme Brow brow gel, and fell in love. I love how easy it is to apply and the extra volume it brings to my brows. And although it won my affections, I stopped buying it for a couple of reasons. Reason One being that it dries out pretty quickly and Reason Two is that it's so expensive for a product that dries out so quickly!

Ever since my tumultuous relationship with Gimme Brow, I've been hoping to find a similar product or "dupe" at the drugstore. Well, my dear readers, have I finally accomplished this goal? You'll have to read on!

Tinted brow gels have been all the rage lately from drugstore brands. There has been the Maybelline Brow Drama, the Rimmel Brow This Way, and probably more that I'm forgetting to mention! And the only one that has really intrigued me is the Brow Stylist Plumper that L'Oreal released a few months back.

I had read some reviews online and they seemed pretty positive, so I thought I'd pick it up and give it a go.

Purpose: The Stylist Plumper is supposed to add colour and volume (it contains tiny buildable fibres) to brows in an easy swipe, as well as set them in place.

The brush: The brush on this product is a great size. It's small enough that it's easy to control, but it's big enough that it applies a decent amount of product.

The formula: I was surprised by how liquid-y the formula is. I was expecting a thicker product (similar to the Gimme Brow or a traditional mascara/gel) but this stuff is much more wet than I pictured it being. That being said, I do think it's a really great formula. It easily adds colour and "plumps" the brows, while setting them securely in place. They unfortunately have a limited colour selection (light to medium, medium to dark, and transparent) and the "light to medium" shade is a taaaaaaaad to warm-toned for me, but I can make do.

Ease of use: This product definitely requires some careful application because it can get messy pretty quickly. But it has started to dry out, the longer i've owned it, which actually makes it a bit easier to control. I'd definitely recommend having some Q-Tips handy while applying, such in case you have any smudges or smears.

The price: I can't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I know it was less than $10. Much cheaper than higher end alternatives.

Is it a dupe for Gimme Brow? While the formula is definitely different, I'd say the the overall effect achieved with both of these products is quite similar. I have to be a biiit more careful when applying L'Oreal's product, but I think the massive price difference makes it worth sticking with. I'll definitely repurchase this when I run out, because it is perfect for quickly swiping through my brows when I'm too rushed to use a pencil or powder. Bravo, L'Oreal.
